COP T20 off to exciting start with seven-wicket wins for HQ and Presidential Guard

The annual Commissioner of Police (COP) T20 Cup bowled off on Wednesday with a double-header at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
In the opening game, defending champions Headquarters defeated Regional Division Five by seven wickets, while Presidential Guard for the better of GPF Academy by the same margin.
The standout performances of the day were a blistering 82 not out off 39 balls (12x4s, 3x6s) from Andrew Lyght Jr. of Headquarters and a brilliant all-round performance from Guyana Harpy Eagles player Kevlon Anderson, who took 3-30 and made 59 for Presidential Guard.

The tournament continues on Thursday (March 12) with another double-header at the same venue.
Regional Division 10 will take on Regional Division Three from 09:30h, followed by Divisions One, Seven, Eight and Nine Combined against Divisions 4A and 4B Combined from 13:30h.
The Commissioner of Police T20 Cup features 13 teams, putting on show over 200 ranks and 15 franchise players.
Among the franchise players are West Indies T20 player Quentin Sampson, former Guyana and West Indies cricketers Leon Johnson, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Christopher Barnwell and Assad Fudadin, Guyana Harpy Eagles pair Kemol Savory and Kevlon Anderson, Inter-county stalwarts Antony Adams and Kevon Boodie, last year’s MVP Damion Vantull, and young brigade Riyad Latif, Shamar Apple, Joshua Budhram and Bernard Bailey.
The first round of matches this week will follow the knockout format, after which the Super Seven will be played next week. This will be followed by the semi-final matches and grand final.
