Less than a year after making history as the first public school in Guyana to launch its own squash club, Queen’s College  is now pioneering a professional coaching pathway.

At the centre of this latest development is a unique quartet: two Physical Education teachers and two budding student-athletes, all currently undergoing a rigorous Level I Coaching Course at the Georgetown Club.

Leading the sessions is the venerable, award-winning coach Carl Ince.

While the QC Squash Club has flourished since its May 2025 debut, the goal of this initiative is to integrate squash into the broader school curriculum, ensuring the sport isn’t just a club activity, but a fundamental part of the PE experience for every student.

The participation of PE Teacher Jude Holder and Assistant PE Teacher Kelton Jennings marks a significant milestone.

By equipping staff with these specialised skills, QC is laying the groundwork for teaching squash at the CXC level, providing students with both athletic and academic pathways in the sport.

The coaching cohort is bolstered by two QC students working alongside their mentors to sharpen their tactical understanding of the game. This focus on development is already yielding tangible results on the national stage.

The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) recently fast-tracked two of the club’s brightest prospects into the national Development Squad. Nicholas Mohamed and Nyela Glasgow, both competing in the Under-15 category, have been identified as key figures for the future.

As the club nears its first anniversary this May, the focus remains on expansion. Plans are already underway to celebrate the one-year milestone with a series of events, with further details expected in the coming weeks.
