Dwain Dick slammed the first century of this year’s Commissioner of Police T20 Cup to keep Headquarters’ title defence alive.

A commanding eight-wicket win over Regional Divisions One, Seven, Eight and Nine Combined means defending champions Headquarters are through to the Super Four of the annual tournament.

Chasing a target of 179 in the opening Super Seven game at the Police Sports Club on Monday, Headquarters lost Andrew Lyght Jr. (15) and Pernell London (11) cheaply, before Dick and Kanhaiya Ramkarran took control of the chase with an unbroken third wicket partnership.

Dick smashed 10 sixes and eight fours in an unbeaten 108 off just 46 balls, going at a strike rate of 234. Ramkarran played the perfect support role with 36 not out off 33 balls.

Marvin Peters and Damian Vantull were the wicket-takers for Regional Divisions One, Seven, Eight and Nine Combined, who posted 178-8 batting first.

Vantull struck four fours and three sixes in his 38 off 20, Brandon Frank made 32 from 23, Chrisopher Smith 26 from 14, Peters 17 from nine and Kevis Mendonca 16* off nine.

Headquarters produced a disciplined effort with the ball, with Euan Blair returning 2-23 from four overs, which included a maiden, Dick taking 2-37, and London claiming 2-27.

Ameer Mohamed and Ramkarran supported with one wicket each.
