A search is ongoing for Aladdin Dookie, 28, a fisherman residing at Number 77 Housing Scheme, Corriverton Berbice.

Reports are that on March 21st at approximately 17:59 hours, Dookie, who was captain of the boat, along with three others, was fishing near Orealla Village on the Corentyne River in Berbice.

According to information gathered, while trying to start the engine by pulling the choke, Dookie accidentally fell overboard after leaning too far over the side of the boat. He was seen going under the water and has not come back to the surface since then.

In response to the tragic event, a search party was organized to comb the area for  Dookie, but so far, he remains missing.

Dookie’s wife, Amrita Singh told reporters that she had spoken to her husband around lunchtime, and he assured her he would call back. She recounted the heartbreaking moment her mother informed her of the distressing news on Saturday. Since then, efforts to find Dookie have been relentless.

Singh shared that her husband was not a swimmer. She mentioned that Dookie had been away for five days on his fishing adventure.

With tears in her eyes, Singh expressed, “me want me husband come home; he get four children and I hope he return home safe.”
