While heavy rainstorms enveloped the country last weekend, the conditions proved ideal for indoor precision as Archery Guyana successfully hosted its 2025 National Indoor Archery Championships.

The two-day event, held at the Sophia Exhibition Centre, saw 43 archers from across the nation brave the elements to showcase mental fortitude and competitive excellence.

The championships serve as a critical fixture in the local sporting calendar, with results contributing to national rankings and team selection for international duties.

The tournament featured a diverse field of athletes from clubs including Bow Nation, Golden League Archery, Pro Archers Guyana, Qayyim Archery, and several independent competitors.

In the marquee Recurve Men’s division, Trevaughn Waldron secured the Gold, edging out Jeewanram Persaud and Mehandra Chatargum. On the women’s side, Julie-Ann Williams claimed the top spot on the podium, followed by Karin Onica Toppin and Roshini Boodhoo.

The Compound division saw Anand Mangra take home the Gold in the Men’s category, while Nolan Gray and Jo-Lee Zammet dominated their respective Men’s and Women’s Barebow divisions.

Technical scoring was spearheaded by Results Manager Saeed Karim, supported by Anoopa Ramdial.

Archery Guyana extended special thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, specifically Permanent Secretary Roger Rogers, and the staff of the Sophia Exhibition Centre for their logistical support.

The Federation also recognised Guyana Beverages Inc. for its sponsorship, providing Oasis Water and Altitude sports drinks to ensure the athletes remained hydrated during the intense elimination rounds.

“The 2025 National Indoor Championships represent another important milestone in the continued growth and development of archery in Guyana,” the Federation noted, highlighting the significant increase in youth engagement across all divisions. (Modified Archery Guyana Press Release)
