A tragic incident occurred on Sunday morning when a woman took the life of her young daughter following her husband’s failure to return home.

The deceased is identified as Isabella Dabadial, aged 7, a student at Cooper Primary School.

According to reports, Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, aged 26, a ten-day worker residing on Fyrish Road, Corentyne, Berbice, committed the act around 11:30 hours on Sunday.

Shivpersaud confided to investigators that she was experiencing emotional distress after her husband had left the residence several days prior and had refused to return. The woman stated that upon waking on Sunday, having had no food, she suffocated Isabella. She also admitted to having attempted to strangulate or otherwise suffocate her son, Ethan, who is 1 year and 9 months old, but was unsuccessful.

Following the incident, Shivpersaud attempted suicide but failed.

An alarm was raised, and several individuals intervened. Shivpersaud and her children were transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Isabella was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Shivpersaud was admitted, treated, and sutured; she is currently in a stable condition under police guard.

    Investigations are ongoing.
