32 athletes set to represent Guyana at South American Youth Games in Panama

The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) on Wednesday officially unveiled a 50-member delegation—including 32 of the nation’s finest young athletes—set to represent the nation at the 2026 South American Youth Games in Panama.
The multi-sport event, scheduled to run from April 12 to April 25, serves as a critical developmental platform for athletes aged 14–18.
For Guyana, it is a mission of redemption; the country is looking to rebound from a medal-less outing at the 2022 edition in Argentina and add to the historic legacy left by Deshanna Skeete, who remains Guyana’s only gold medalist at these Games (Peru, 2017).
During a briefing at the GOA’s Liliendaal Headquarters, President Godfrey Munroe emphasised that Panama is merely the beginning of a long-term journey.
“Start getting in tune with setting your targets, a four-year plan of what you want to do,” Munroe urged. “There are several games coming up… Commonwealth Youth, Pan Am Youth, and so on. This is a stepping-stone to the ultimate goal of the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.”

Echoing his sentiments, Vice-President Cristy Campbell and Chef de Mission Carolyn Garraway reminded the athletes that they are ambassadors both on and off the field.
Campbell stressed that “proper decorum” in the Games Village is as vital as performance on the court, while Garraway called for “integrity and discipline” throughout the 14-day mission.
Boxing standout Ken Harvey and table tennis sensation Jasmine Billingy have been named the flag bearers for the opening ceremony.
