National Golf League set for thrilling finale on Sunday

The fairways of the Lusignan Golf Club are primed for a blockbuster conclusion this Sunday as the National Top Flight Golf League (NTFGL) reaches its eighth and final round.

In a scenario usually reserved for the back nine at Augusta, the championship remains mathematically alive for every single player in the final two groups.

A statistical logjam promises maximum drama. Under the league’s pressure-cooker format, total points decided pairings, with ties settled by the speed at which players reached their tallies—a “first-to-the-finish” rule that has added a sharp edge to the final leaderboard.

Patanjilee Persaud sits in the metaphorical driver’s seat with 18 points, but his lead is as thin as a blade of grass.

Breathing down his neck are Videsh Persaud, Fazil Haniff, and Joseph Szeplaki, all locked on 17 points. For these four, the math is simple: win the round, win the league.

However, the threat isn’t just coming from the final group. Brian Hackett, also sitting on 17 points, will lead the penultimate charge.

Playing one group ahead, Hackett has the opportunity to post a clubhouse lead and force the leaders into a mistake.

He is joined by the veteran presence of Patrick Prashad (15 points), while Mike Mangal (12) and Kishan Bacchus (10) remain mathematical outsiders should the leaders falter.

The field will be slightly thinner this Sunday as the competitive Chet is forced to miss the final showdown.
