The Government of Guyana is assuring Guyanese that fuel supplies will be normalised starting Monday night, following a delay in shipment from one major oil company and a resultant shortage during the day.

    See full release below:

Government is aware of reports of some level of panic over fuel availability in the country.

Following a meeting with fuel importers, it was discovered that one major oil company developed a delay with its fuel shipment.  This company has since received fuel and is presently discharging same.

All importers have assured Government that the situation will be normalized as shipments arrived this afternoon and additional shipments are expected tomorrow and later in the week. See below a schedule of fuel shipment arrivals this week.

Consumers are advised that there is no need for concern, panic buying or hoarding, as adequate fuel stocks will be available within the system as the minor disruption is normalized.  The public is strongly cautioned that petroleum products are highly flammable and must be handled and stored with extreme care. The unsafe storage of gasoline, particularly in inappropriate containers, poses a serious fire risk and significantly increases the potential for injury, loss of life, and damage to property.

The Government will continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary actions to ensure stable and reliable access to fuel nationwide.
