    Led by a brilliant all-round performance from Parmeshwar Ram, Demerara defeated Berbice by eight wickets to win the Guyana Cricket Board Under-19 Inter-County, 50-over competition on Sunday at the Rose Hall Community Centre, East Berbice.

    Billed as a competitive showdown, the final turned out to be a one-sided affair as Berbice made a meagre 134 all out from 44.5 overs; Demerara replied with 135-2 from 37.2 overs.

    Opener Ram led the run-chase with a fine 50 off 64 balls (3x4s, 3x6s), sharing an opening stand of 86 in 20.2 overs with Kishawn Silas, who was run out for 48 off 104 balls (1×4, 2x6s).

    Emmanuel Lewis saw Demerara to victory with an unbeaten 27 off 48 (2x4s, 1×6), as leg-spinner Feaz Baksh picked up 1-22.

    With the ball Ram picked up 2-11 off five overs, but it was leg-spinner Dhanesh Persaud who did the damage with splendid figures of 10-0-24-4, delivering a controlled spell of bowling.

    There was a wicket each for Shane Prince, Vijay Kalpu and Arun Gainda.

    Adrian Hetmyer topscored for Berbice with 31 off 73 (1×4, 1×6), with national Under-15 captain Richard Ramdeholl the only other player past 20 with 23 off 45 (1×4).
