Testing centres in communities to help gov’t revolutionise healthcare

President Dr. Irfaan Ali says new testing centres will be set up in communities across the country as part of efforts to vastly improve primary healthcare.
The President said this as he outlined some of his administration’s plans to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionise healthcare in Guyana on Thursday morning at a Mount Sinai AI seminar at the Marriott Hotel, titled “Turning Promise into Practice: Integrating AI into Healthcare.”
He said the government is moving ahead with plans to use technology to support more accurate diagnoses and to deliver faster services to patients. In so doing, it is believed that patient care will be improved significantly.
However, the President said the collection of accurate and up-to-date patient information is crucial. As such, testing centres will be established to both support citizens’ health now and collect data that can be used for analyses and national planning.
“We are going to set up testing centres, self-testing centres, where you can go in and test your sugar levels, your (blood) pressure. We’re going to involve the churches and mosques on this,” the President said.
This initiative, the President said, is expected to boost primary healthcare across Guyana and support national health planning.
