PRESS RELEASE || The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) proudly announces that Kenisha Headley- sports administrator, Head teacher, Athletics coach, and Assistant Secretary of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG)- has successfully completed the International Coaching Enrichment Certification Programme (ICECP) at the University of Delaware.

Nominated by the AAG through the GOA and supported by Olympic Solidarity, her participation reflects the GOA’s strategic focus on strengthening coaching expertise and technical capacity across national federations.

The scholarship-based programme, held from April 2025-2026, brought together a selected group of national coaches and officials responsible for their respective disciplines worldwide and was delivered in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

It equips participants with advanced training and competencies in sport science and systems, athlete development, talent identification, coaching education and management, and sport management, while fostering leadership and ethical practice.

As part of the programme, which included classes session exposure to high performance systems, Headley completed a thesis titled “A Strategic Framework for Transitioning Youth and Junior in Athletics Success and Talent into Elite Performance,” which was highly commended for its practical relevance to athletics development in Guyana.

Graduates of the ICECP are expected to serve as thought leaders and change agents enhancing their national coaching systems and implementing sustainable development programmes, contributing to the growth of sport.

In this regard, the GOA looks forward to working with Headley and the AAG to implement her project and further strengthen athletics development pathways in Guyana.

Headley described her ICECP experience as a highly enriching and transformative journey, highlighting the value of learning from world-class mentors and gaining advanced knowledge in sport.

She emphasised the importance of the Lausanne module in deepening her expertise and building lasting professional networks.

A standout moment for her was receiving her diploma from Kirsty Coventry, the first Female President of the IOC.

She also expressed sincere gratitude to the University of Delaware, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, her tutor Randy Wilbur, the Athletic Association of Guyana, the Guyana Olympic Association, her family, and all supporters who contributed to her success.

Headley now joins a global network of ICECP alumni and received certification jointly issued by the University of Delaware and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

“Mrs. Headley’s achievement represents exactly the type of strategic investment we continue to prioritize at the Guyana Olympic Association building human capacity to drive performance, sustainability, and excellence across our sporting landscape. Her successful completion of this globally respected programme positions her as a key resource in advancing athletics development in Guyana, particularly in strengthening the transition of our young talent to elite performance pathways.” Godfrey Munroe, President, Guyana Olympic Association.
