National Under-15 all-rounder Shahid Ramzan and leg-spinner Kaylon Callender turned in match-winning performances for Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) respectively when the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Enline Security Logistics Inc. Under-15, 50-over competition continued in the city on Saturday.

GCC romped to an emphatic 165-run win over hosts Queen’s College, while home team DCC inflicted an eight-wicket defeat on Everest.

Ramzan stars with bat and ball for GCC

SUMMARY: GCC 240 all out from 39.3 overs (Shahid Ramzan 58, Extras 54, Aaron Persaud 35, Balashankar Narine 32, Ravaldo Pereira 22, Trilok Nanan 22; Nathaniel Sukhnandan 3-32, Afraz Ali 3-45, Nitin Bhowandat 2-34, Shiv Piterhadaue 2-67) vs Queen’s College 75 all out from 16.4 overs (Extras 46, Nathaniel Sukhnandan 10*, Nitin Bhowandat 10; Shahid Ramzan 4-11, Dilshan Ganesh 3-28, Ravaldo Pereira 2-15)

Ramzan, the left-handed opener, stroked 58 off 88 balls (3x4s) in GCC’s 240 all out and then returned with his off-spin to snare 4-11 off 3.4 overs to help dismiss Queen’s College for 75.

Debutant seamer Dilshan Ganesh, playing a hardball game for the first time, wrecked Queen’s College top-order with a three-wicket haul, while former national Under-15 off-spinner Ravaldo Pereira added two wickets.

When GCC batted, they benefitted from 54 extras, while Aaron Persaud made 35 off 45 (4x4s, 2x6s), Balashankar Narine 32 off 25 (4x4s, 1×6) and Trilok Nanan 22 off 27 (2x4s).

Spin pair Nathaniel Sukhnandan (3-32) and Afraz Ali (3-45) were the pick of the bowlers for Queen’s College, with Nitin Bhowandat (2-34) and Shiv Piterhadaue (2-67) also among the wickets.

Callender puts Everest in a spin

SUMMARY: Everest 58 all out from 30.1 overs (Ravindra Singh 21, Savir Narine 12; Kaylon Callender 5-18, Adam Mohamed 2-10) vs Demerara Cricket Club 59-2 from 5.5 overs (Lomar Seecharran 32*; Shane Seodat 1-26, Jagdesh Kalpoo 1-26)

Led by a superb bowling performance from leg-spinner Callender, who picked up 5-18, hosts DCC dismissed Everest for 58 and then romped to victory in 5.5 overs with opener Lomar Seecharran leading the charge.

Adam Mohamed supported Callender with 2-10, as only Ravindra Singh (21) and Savir Narine (12) got into double-figures for Everest.

In reply, DCC lost Kaiden Smith (1) and Nathan Bishop (3) cheaply, but national youth player Seecharran wrapped up the chase with 32 not out off 23 balls, hitting five fours and a six.

Shane Seodat and Jagdesh Kalpoo were the wicket-takers for Everest.

The competition continues on Sunday (May 10) with GCC hosting GT XI and Transport having home advantage against Malteenoes. Both matches start at 09:30h.
