WiMAC Guyana honours women driving maritime excellence at 2026 Gala & Awards

The Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC) Guyana Chapter hosted its 2026 Gala and Awards Ceremony in Georgetown, celebrating women and allies making significant contributions to Guyana’s maritime sector.
Held under the theme “From Policy to Participation: Women Driving Maritime Excellence,” the event brought together government officials, maritime professionals, private sector representatives and regional stakeholders for an evening focused on leadership, innovation and inclusion in the industry.
Among the top awardees was Arya Ali, who received the Maritime Ambassador of the Year Award for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and national development. Other honourees included Coleen Abrams, Safina Lutchman, Renatha Khan-Bovell, Jennifer Falconer and Sonia Gumbs-Luke, among several others recognized across 20 award categories.

The event also recognized five men for their longstanding support of WiMAC Guyana and its mission since its establishment in 2018. Those honoured included Captain Stephen Thomas, Philip Fernandes, Captain Joseph Lewis, Martin Cheong and Brian Tiwari.
