A 69-year-old man, whose decomposed body was discovered inside his Providence, East Bank Demerara home last week has led police to arrest three persons as investigations continue.

Dead is Mohammed Shaheed, called “Fizal” or “Artist,” a self-employed resident of Parker Street, Providence.

According to Police Headquarters, Shaheed was last seen alive on Saturday, May 16, at about 21:00hrs.

After several calls to his phone went unanswered, checks were made on him on Tuesday, May 19, at about 13:00hrs, when he was found motionless inside his home.

Police processed the scene and observed the body in an advanced state of decomposition. Investigators said there were no signs of forced entry at the premises.

The body was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead. It was later transferred to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

A post-mortem examination conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh on Wednesday, May 20, gave the cause of death as brain haemorrhage due to multiple blunt trauma to the head.

Police said that through intelligence gathering and investigative work several persons of interest were identified. As a result, a 19-year-old construction worker of Parker Street, Providence, and a 22-year-old porter of Back Street, Peter’s Hall, E.B.D., were arrested on Monday, May 25.

Further investigations later led to the arrest of a 17-year-old labourer of Parker Street, Providence, on Tuesday, May 26. Police said the teenager is being treated as a juvenile in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.

The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
