A father is looking for answers after his son was burned on his face and shoulder at the Port Mourant Apprentices hostel last Friday.

Eighteen-year-old Trimol Noble from Fyrish Village, Corentyne Berbice, moved into the hostel in August 2025 to join a one-year sugar boiler program.

On May 22, 2026, around midnight, Trimol said he woke up to a burning sensation on his face. Concerned, he turned on the light in his room and saw that his bed, clothes, and the floor were all wet.

After noticing the water, Trimol went downstairs to see if he could find out who was responsible but did not spot anyone. He was then directed to the hostel manager, who applied petroleum jelly to his burns. The next morning, he received treatment at the dispensary near the hostel and later at the Port Mourant Public Hospital.

Trimol mentioned he was moved to a separate room for the night. He insisted he had not had any problems with his classmates. However, he did share that three glasses had been deliberately broken on different occasions, and no one could explain how that happened. He also said some students had poured water on his uniform in the washroom, and right before Easter break, he experienced hot water being thrown on him, though it didn’t leave any scars.

“They also stole three phones from me,’’ he said, noting that searches were conducted but the phones were never found.

“I’m hurt. Usually, I get a hard time sleeping because of the pain,” Trimol admitted. Despite everything, he plans to return to finish his program at the training center which is expected to conclude in June/August.

Trimol sustained burns to his left side face, shoulder, and chest. Presently, he is recovering at home.

‘’I’m hoping for better security. Hopefully, the bullying stops,” he added.

Trimol’s father, Trimmin Noble, feels that more protective measures are needed for people staying at the hostel.

“I’m so sad this happen to my son; it could have been something more serious. This is my son, and I ain’t like this. This is so painful and hurtful for him. Every day, he got to wake up in front of the mirror and look to see what people do to him, something he doesn’t know about. It is so hard for the family, also for him,’’ Trimmin said.

Trimmin is waiting for updates from the hostel about the results of their investigation. He reported the incident to the Whim Police Station and is urging the police and higher authorities to step in and carry out a thorough investigation so that justice can be served.
