Police investigating death of Sergeant

Police are investigating the death of Police Sergeant Bachan Singh of Airstrip Road, Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara. He died while receiving medical treatment after reportedly ingesting a poisonous substance.

According to initial investigations, the incident occurred at about 14:00 hrs on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Singh’s residence. He was subsequently transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital and admitted to the High Dependency Unit for treatment.

Investigators later recovered and processed a bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance.

Police reported that Singh succumbed on Friday, May 29, 2026, at approximately 22:00 hrs while receiving medical care.

An examination of the body revealed no visible marks of violence. The body is currently at the Enmore Regional Hospital Mortuary and will be transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are continuing.
