The 60th Independence Diamond Jubilee 10K Road Relay delivered high-octane drama in the capital with Guyana Defence Force and Running Brave taking the top spots.

Staged in partnership with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), the marquee event marked a centrepiece of the nation’s landmark independence celebrations, tasking teams with a gruelling, winding circuit through the heart of the city.

The senior Mixed Distance Medley was billed as a heavyweight clash, and it lived up to every bit of the hype.

Guyana Defence Force Track Club claimed the ultimate bragging rights, clocking a blistering 30:51.80 to secure victory.

The formidable six-athlete squad of Kosi Thomas, Jelesa Wright, Marlon Nicholson, Javon Roberts, Odida Parkinson, and Attoya Harvey timed their efforts to perfection on the city circuit.

They were pushed all the way by rivals Police Progressive Youth Club, who had to settle for the second step of the podium in 31:09.10.

Running Brave Athletics Club finished a distant third, stopping the clock at 35:15.90.
