Berbice construction worker arrested after police find ammunition during raid

A 28-year-old construction worker from High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, is in police custody after ranks discovered a quantity of ammunition during an operation on Monday morning.

Police said the discovery was made at about 11:45 hrs when officers, acting on information received, went to the man’s home and conducted a search in his presence.

During the search, ranks reportedly found a black haversack containing one 9mm round and nine .223 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station along with the ammunition, which was lodged as evidence.

Police said the man remains in custody as investigations continue into the discovery and possession of the ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing.
