A Lance Corporal of Police is hospitalised following a collision with a vehicle driven by a Region One councillor on Monday morning along the Kumaka Public Road in Moruca.

Police said the accident occurred at about 08:45 hrs and involved motorcycle CR 3340, ridden by the police rank, and motor car PPP 9918, driven by a 55-year-old councillor of Haimaruni Village, Moruca.

According to preliminary investigations, the motorcycle was proceeding west along the southern side of the Kumaka Public Road when the driver of the motor car allegedly turned right into its path. The motorcycle subsequently collided with the front right side of the vehicle.

The impact threw the motorcyclist onto the roadway, causing injuries to various parts of his body.

Public-spirited citizens rushed to assist the injured officer and transported him to the Kumaka District Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor, treated and admitted as a patient.

Police said a breathalyser test conducted on the councillor found no trace of alcohol in his system.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
