The curtain has officially come down on the inaugural season of the Schools Basketball League (SBL).

In a fitting finale to a groundbreaking campaign, Team Diamond turned on the style to defeat Team Gold 57–43 in the SBL All-Star Game, putting the exclamation mark on an unforgettable first season filled with passion, growth, and Elite-level competition.

According to the organisers, “from the very first tip-off, Season 1 was never just about the wins and losses. It was about creating exposure, building composure, and giving Guyana’s next generation of hoops talent a genuine platform to shine.”

When the dust settled on the regular season, it was President’s College who sat proudly at the top of the mountain.

Queen’s College pushed them all the way to secure a brilliant second-place finish, while the Government Technical Institute (GTI) locked down the third spot on the podium after a stellar campaign.

The individual honours were fiercely contested, with GTI’s Sean Duncan asserting himself as an absolute force at both ends of the floor. Duncan scooped up the Top Scorer award, averaging a lethal 17.4 points per game, whilst also anchoring his paint to claim the Most Blocks title (3.4 BPG).

The regular season MVP honours went to Queen’s College standout Darren Dublin, whose dazzling performances carried his side to the upper echelons of the standings, while President’s College star Mattaniah Fordyce was named Defensive Player of the Year for his lockdown efforts.

    • Most Rebounds: Daniel Chisholm (SSC) – 11.7 RPG
    • Most Assists: Demetri Crandon (SSC) – 2.9 APG
    • Most Steals: Cristian Williams (SRH) – 4.9 SPG
    • Coach of the Year: Judah Stephney (MA)

The league also announced its definitive All-Star 5, representing the absolute creme de la creme of the inaugural season:

    • Cristian Williams (SRH)
    • Romarion Wolfe (PC)
    • Darren Dublin (QC)
    • Josiah Cumberbatch (GTI)
    • Sean Duncan (GTI)

Further, the organisers indicated that the vision was heavily backed by a dedicated roster of partners and sponsors, with special appreciation extended to Jonathan Browne and Swoosh Styles, Sunil Ramlall, NexGen Sports, Banks DIH, Joseph Massiah, Antonio Bhikam, Alco Distribution, Eatalian, and StuffGY.

Season II is set to commence in October and will continue with the same mission statement, “Exposure Leads to Composure.”
