A woman lost her life after being caught in a house fire at her home in Blairmont early Tuesday morning.
Bibi Shafroon Ramprashad “Zina,” of Lot 95 Number 2 Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, lost her life in the blaze.
In an interview, Bibi’s husband, Lokenath Ramprashad, 64, a watchman at Pooran Landfill, stated he left for work around 19:00 on Monday. He arrived home at approximately 4:30 on Tuesday to find the tragedy had unfolded.
“Neighbours around said they hear the hollering but they can’t get to go in the house because fire take over the whole place,” he revealed.
Bibi was home alone when the fire started.
“Losing me wife wouldn’t have hurt me so much because me know she sick and me strong. If me hear something like that it would’ve fatigue me so much. But fuh come and see the whole building burn down, that hurn me bad. Me down, me fall down me can’t get up back,” he said.
Lokenath described being unable to save anything from the house, with all his cash and belongings destroyed in the fire.
He estimates his losses exceed 20 million dollars.
Kevon Ramprashad mentioned that the charred remains of his mother were found in a section of the fire debris, specifically in the hall area. He said it appears as though Bibi was trying to exit through a side door.
The family is struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of Bibi and their home. They had planned to surprise her on June 4th for her 62nd birthday, but tragedy struck before they could.
