Three youths die in Corentyne two-vehicle head-on collision

Three youths lost their lives following a two-vehicle collision along Maida Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased are Porshatam Hoolasia, 16, of Lot 29 Haswell, Port Mourant; Ameer Khan, 19, of John Village; and Priyas Mursalin, 23, of Lot 8 Chesney Front, Corentyne, Berbice.
Reports indicate that at approximately 15:30 hours, motor car PAL 9292, driven by Ramesh Aravanan, 44, of Lot 15 Miss Phoebe, Corentyne, Berbice, was proceeding west along the southern driving lane at a normal speed. At that time, Khan was operating motor car PLL 4312 with Hoolasia seated in the front left seat and Mursalin in the rear passenger seat, traveling east at a fast rate of speed.

It is alleged that Khan attempted to overtake another vehicle, during which he entered the path of Aravanan’s vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision on the southern driving lane.
It was confirmed that Khan’s vehicle further collided with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) pole located on the southern side of the road.
As a consequence of the collision, all occupants sustained injuries. Hoolasia was pronounced dead at the scene. Subsequently, all individuals involved were extricated from the damaged vehicles and transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where they received medical examination from attending physicians. Hoolasia, Khan, and Mursalin were officially declared deceased.

A postmortem examination is scheduled to be conducted to ascertain the precise causes of their deaths.
According to reports, a breathalyzer test conducted on Aravanan indicated no trace
alcohol. He was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
