Autopsies conducted on the bodies of the pregnant woman and her fiancé who disappeared while swimming at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara, confirmed that both died by drowning.

The bodies of 20-year-old Lyodisa Waldron, called ‘Loyda’, and her 31-year-old fiancé, Andri Francis, known as ‘Bobby’, were recovered on Tuesday, bringing a tragic end to an extensive search operation that lasted two days.

The autopsies were conducted on Thursday, and confirmed that the couple died by drowning.

The couple, both of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, went missing on Sunday afternoon while visiting Unity Beach with a group of relatives and friends.

According to Police reports, Waldron reportedly drifted further out into the Atlantic Ocean and called for help. Francis then entered the water in an attempt to rescue her, but both were overtaken by strong currents and disappeared beneath the waves.

Following reports of the incident, a joint search operation was launched involving ranks from the Mahaica Police Station, members of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard and volunteers.

The bodies of both Francis and Waldron were discovered Tuesday within mangroves along the Unity shoreline.
