Brenessa Thompson was the star of the Aliann Pompey Invitational Track meet, capturing a sprint double and capped her day’s performance with a recording-breaking run in the Women’s 100M. Thompson, who is one of four athletes that will represent Guyana in Brazil, spoke with the News Room after her sensational run on Saturday.
Guyana’s National 15’s Rugby team, the Green Machine, defeated Trinidad and Tobago 22 – 18, to win the Rugby Americas North South zone title, when the two countries met at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain on Saturday. Head Coach Laurie Adonis and President Peter Greene credited the team’s win and performance to their strong team-effort. Rawle Toney reports.
Slingerz Football Club suffered their first defeat in over two years and it came at the hands of their arch rival Alpha “The Hammer” United Football Club on Sunday. Alpha United defeated Slingerz FC 3 – 0 on penalty after a scoreless regulation and extra time, to capture the STAG Elite League Finale title on at the Leonora track and Field Facility.
